TIRANA – Following violent protests that resulted in significant damage to the College of Europe campus in Tirana, Prime Minister Edi Rama visited the institution on Tuesday. Rama condemned the destruction, describing the damaged office as a symbol of the events that transpired, and accused the opposition of actively trying to hinder Albania’s integration into the European Union.
Rama emphasized that these actions represent a deliberate effort to undermine the country’s progress towards European integration. He expressed deep concern that the opposition is attempting to force Albania back into a difficult past, asserting that the nation will not retreat.
“These are hands that try to pull Albania down every time it attempts to rise. They are the hands of an opposition that, with the passion of the blind, seeks to return the country to a place it will never go back to,” Rama stated forcefully.
While acknowledging that Albania is navigating challenging times, the Prime Minister expressed unwavering confidence in the country’s continued advancement on its path to European integration. “This office of the College of Europe is the symbol of what Tirana and all citizens witnessed last night. These are difficult hours, but Albania will continue to move forward and will never fall into hands that have gripped it by the throat,” he added.
Rama underscored that Albania’s future belongs to its students and citizens, who he believes will ultimately determine the nation’s trajectory. “Whoever has a hand in this chaos will pay. We are determined to move forward and not allow Albania to be turned back,” he concluded, sending a strong message to those seeking to destabilize the country.
